I Forgot Day – July 2, 2025

I Forgot Day is a humorous and forgiving holiday for people to own up to their forgetfulness and make peace with missed birthdays, unanswered messages, or overlooked to-do lists. It’s a chance to admit you’re human and reconnect with people you may have unintentionally neglected.

Celebrated every July 2nd, I Forgot Day is an unofficial “day of amnesty” for absent-minded folks everywhere. Instead of feeling guilty for forgetting an anniversary, a loved one’s birthday, or a promise, people are encouraged to acknowledge it honestly and set things right.

The “I Forgot Day” was created by aye Anderson, a woman who admitted she often forgot birthdays, anniversaries, and other important dates — so she decided everyone needed a day to say “Oops, I forgot!” and make amends.

In our busy lives, we all drop the ball sometimes — and that’s okay! I Forgot Day is a day to apologize, send belated cards or flowers, and show friends or family they’re still in your thoughts, even if you didn’t remember right on time. Some people even use the day to tackle old tasks or notes they’ve ignored for too long. It’s lighthearted, forgiving, and all about giving (and getting) a second chance.

Spend I Forgot Day making amends and catching up on things you overlooked. Call or text friends you haven’t spoken to in ages, send out that belated birthday card, or apologize for a missed meeting. If you’re feeling creative, mail a funny “I Forgot” greeting card or a small gift with a note saying, “Better late than never!” Use the day to review your calendar or planner and set reminders so future forgetfulness is less likely. You can also take time to forgive yourself — nobody’s perfect, and sometimes we all need a day to laugh at our mistakes and move on.
